Description

This film is a silent film with musical accompaniment and sound effects. The film begins with a title card: 'A Switch in Time... Save 999'. A man and woman are packing luggage into a car whilst their dog barks at them. Another woman arrives at the house by a bus marked 'Acocks Green via Olton'. The couple show the woman around the house and food for the dog. The woman is looking after the dog whilst they are away. After their departure we see the woman watching television. She and the dog go upstairs to bed. Just as she pulls the light switch there is a doorbell. On opening the front door she sees that there is no-one there. She goes back to bed but the same thing happens. The woman looks frightened and rings 999 on the telephone. Shortly after this two policemen arrive and investigate the outside of the house to find nothing. After they leave, the doorbell rings again. The woman opens an upstairs window and begins shouting. A nearby neighbour opens his window to ask her what is happening. The neighbour visits the woman and offers to check the house for intruders. When he gets to the bedroom he explains that there are two light switch cords; one for the light and one that sets off a buzzer downstairs in the servant's bell box. With the matter resolved the woman and the dog sleep.
