"Marilyn". Fashion model Marilyn Smith from Coalville in Leicestershire is the daughter and grand-daughter of miners. We see her posing for photographs outside a local colliery (Snibston?) and miners' welfare and looking at a window display at a Marshall and Snelgrove department store. During the stylised sequence we also see shots of dolls being manufactured at Palitoy in Coalville where Marilyn works. "Out of Darkness". Retired miner Sam Burglass has had his sight restored after four years. We see Sam visiting Newcastle upon Tyne and Northumberland. "North Star". Profile of the Yorkshire coalfields. The item starts with brief shots around the Worksop area including the exterior of Steetley Colliery in Nottinghamshire. We then travel around the collieries and sights of Yorkshire visiting Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley (including a miners' welfare), pits in the Doncaster area, racing at Pontefract, the runner Dorothy Hyman and barges travelling to Immingham.
