Description

Tim Downes interviews Mr J. Walker, the driver of a lorry that exploded close to houses in West Bromwich today. He describes pulling over when his lorry caught fire and being only fifteen yards away when it blew up. The second interview is with a local woman who also describes what she saw. Downes next interviews Jim Horton, Assistant Chief Constable of Staffordshire about the clear-up. Finally we hear from eye-witness Graham Rees, the landlord of the Navigation Inn. There are a couple of shots of damaged buildings including the exterior of the Navigation Inn.

Story number - 3855. Twenty eight people were injured in the explosion which was caused by a fire in a lorry carrying methyl-ethyl-ketone peroxide. A wheel from the lorry smashed through a front window of one of the houses. It was reported by The Times that windows in the Birmingham Law Courts seven miles away were rattled by the blast.
