Description

The film is comprised of scenic shots of the Peak District National Park with a commentary from members of the Peak Park Planning Board about their work. We see views of unidentified villages; sheep at market; and hikers. Gerald Haythornthwaite is seen standing on a high edge surveying the countryside and we also see a view of Peveril Castle at Castleton; a large reservoir in the north of the county; and the youth hostel at Ilam. We continue with a description of the work of warden (Tom Tomlinson?) and we see more activities in the park: walkers at the start of the Pennine Way; rock climbing; camping and caravaning; anglers inspecting their equipment; the park's centre at Edale; library pictures of a mountain rescue exercise in snow; and hikers using a map and compass. At the information centre in Edale we next hear from a volunteer (Fred Heardman?) about their work and see a group of Ugandan and Kenyan Asian students on a visit from Loughborough College. We then hear from Planning Officer, John Foster about building in the area and see: examples of both old and new housing; views of Ashford-in-the-water village; the park's forestry nursery at Bakewell; car parking; day trippers; and a mobile information caravan. Finally we hear from the Chairman of the Peak Park Planning Board, Alderman N. Gratton who is seen sitting outside his headquarters.
