Description

We see views of the River Dove in Dovedale with an emphasis on angling. Leslie Dunn provides a commentary about the sport and its historical links to the Stafford born fisherman Izaak Walton and the local squire Charles Cotton who collaborated on the book 'The Compleat Angler' (published in 1653). We also see illustrations of Walton and Cotton. Several local personalities provide sections of the commentary: district nurse and keen angler Francis Plant; angling shop owner Wilfred Foster; solicitor Colonel Waldren who leases land from the National Trust along the Dove; and water bailiff Miss Oliver. We see each of them fishing or at work on the river. The film ends with views of walkers crossing the stepping stones at Dovedale and shots of Charles Cotton's fishing 'temple' in Beresford Dale.
