Description

We see a Solihull County Borough road sign, a procession into a church to mark the borough ceremony, rows of large detached houses in Solihull and men on a golf course. We then see views of Solihull town centre and the exteriors of shops. A series of audio only vox pops talk about snobbery in the town and its growth as a shopping area. We then see people drinking in a wine bar. The next section shows the editor of the Solihull News at his desk. His commentary covers shots of the new Solihull Civic Hall. We then move on to Solihull College where we see exterior views, students inside socialising and dancing and an engineering class. A commentary provides us with details of activities. We then see more shots of large houses (with a commentary about 'keeping up with the Joneses'). The reel ends with a print of sections of news film showing the Queen opening the Civic Hall in Solihull on 25 May 1962. The second short reel shows the interior of a large house in Solihull and more shots of the parade to mark borough status.
