Description

Shots of a statue of Charles Darwin in Shrewsbury followed by vox pops with local people asked if they know who he was. This is followed by views of two statues in the New Walk area of Leicester: Reverend Robert Hall (in De Montfort Square) and the hosiery industrialist John Biggs (in Welford Place). These shots are followed by vox pops with local people asked if they know the men. The next sequence shows a statue in Wicksteed Park of a dog called Jerry that was owned by the park's founder Charles Wicksteed. Visitors are asked about the statue. We then see a modern sculpture that represents the family on Westgate Street in Gloucester (the work of John Whiskerd) and vox pops about the piece - one boy calls it vulgar. We then see a sequence showing artist Lynn Chadwick at work in his studio soldering a framework and making an iron sculpture (he provides a commentary but is not interviewed). The final section shows examples of Chadwick's work on display.
