Stock footage shots of a tropical island and the 1961 volcanic eruption on Tristan da Cunha followed by scenes of people being evacuated from the island by boat. Tim Downes interview with Dr Stanley Gooch from Worcester who is shortly leaving the country to return to Tristan da Cunha where he has previously lived and worked. Interview with Major Peter Wood about the various places he has lived in abroad culminating in him buying the island of Herm in the Channel Islands. We also see brief mute shots of a busy city street and children playing in a demolition site.
