Description

Library pictures showing holidaymakers at a railway station, coach station, boarding an aircraft, ship, busy inland waterways scene, crowded road and aerial of holiday beach. We then see mute shots of women machinists working in a Leicester textile factory. Richard Thompson interviews the manager of a Leicester firm about the problems of having staggered holidays with different departments relying on each other. We then see shots of car production in the Midlands: rows of new Jaguar Mk 10 cars outside the factory in Coventry; production lines making Triumph Herald (at the Canley factory in Coventry) and Rover 2000 (Solihull) cars. We then cut to production lines in an engineering factory making small tubes. Richard Thompson talks to a manager who explains that staff now want to choose their own holidays. Finally we see boys arriving at a school and Thompson interviews a head-teacher about the effect of any holiday changes on children.
