Description

We see establishing shots of old market square, the Trip to Jerusalem pub and Nottingham Castle. Richard Dimbleby is seen arriving at the castle in a Jaguar. Inside, he meets and interviews Mr Pitman, Museum Curator, who describes the history of lace making in the city. Dimbleby next visits the Chamber of Commerce in Nottingham where he interviews Reg Barnes, President of the Lace Federation about the current state of the industry. Next, at Nottingham and District Technical College he talks to instructor Mr Douglas about training methods. We then see factory scenes showing all stages in the production of lace including the jacquard machines, laboratory testing, the design room, bleaching, dying and hand finishing and finally the sales room. Dimbleby provides a commentary throughout.
