The first report is about the decline in the population of skylarks. Tony visits Lambourn Downs on the Berkshire and Oxfordshire border with the RSPB who are studying the birds which live mainly on farmland. Views of skylarks and close up shots of a nest and chicks. Interviews with Lys Muirhead and Will Gray from the RSPB about how they are studying the birds and the reasons for their decline which is mainly blamed on farmers switching from spring to winter sown crops. Tony also talks to farmer David Cox who admits that they can’t change the whole system to accommodate the birds. There are also shots of a humane crow trap on the land which also concerns the RSPB.
Next Wendy Nelson visits Ann Marie Evans at her home in Leicestershire. She is an artist specialising in botanical painting who is running courses for people interested in the subject. Views of her work and shots of the students in her garden looking for subjects to paint and in the studio working on their art. Vox pops with students an interview with Ann Marie Evans and course organiser Charlotte Pike.
The final item looks at the problem of rabbits on land in the Cotswolds. Tony chats to countryman Fred J. Taylor about how estates used to control the animals that are considered to be pests by farmers. Fred goes out to shoot rabbits and then cooks then on his camp-fire. Fred, Tony and friends then sample the meat. Shots of rabbits both alive and being cooked.
