Description

The programme is introduced by Reg Harcourt. He first attempts to link to Jon Lander in the Westminster studio but the line fails and Harcourt continues by talking to Anthony Beaumont-Dark MP (Conservative, Birmingham Selly Oak) and Peter Snape MP (Labour, West Bromwich East) about the news that the Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson has resigned. Beaumont-Dark admits that he didn't like the last budget and Snape blames the 'megalomania' of the Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on the departure. Both talk about the possible effect on the economy and the stock market. The line to Jon Lander is now working and we cut to the London studio where he talks to the shadow chancellor John Smith and the economist Giles Keating. A separate interview by Lander with Gerald Howarth MP (Conservative, Cannock and Burntwood) follows. Next Rob Whitehouse reports from the Countesthorpe Conservative Club in Lawson's Blaby constituency. He talks to club members Dick Anderson, Anne Atkinson, Trevor Jordan and Mrs Jordan. The Blaby Constituency Association Chairman Ian MacAlpine also contributes with an official statement to the media.
