Description

We see the activities of the Special Patrol Group including a briefing session from Inspector Ted Slater; the work of the collators office where calls are forwarded to the group. Reg Harcourt interviews Inspector Slater whilst he drives through Birmingham pointing out the various undercover officers standing on street corners (around Hockley). We next see a football match being played at Villa Park and shots of fans outside the stadium being escorted by police. The next sequence shows officers stationed at the top of a tall building working on surveillance duty against car theft. This is followed by more undercover officers in a park on the look-out for 'perverts'. Back at base there are further interviews with officers in uniform about their duties and the film ends with examples of their night operations including working on the streets of the city centre looking after young drinkers and finally operating a road-block on the ring road where motorists are stopped.
