We see the ceremony, which is also known as 'trussing the cooper', in progress. It marks the end of a five-year apprenticeship. The final apprentice (John Williams) is placed in a barrel which is hammered by workers and beer and wood shavings are tipped on his head. At the end of his ordeal he is presented with his apprentice certificate.
