Bev Smith piece to camera at the entrance to a tunnel on the Birmingham ring road which will link Great Charles Street with Suffolk Street. We also see a shot of the entrance without Smith. He then visits Baskerville House, the administrative headquarters of Birmingham City Council, where he interviews Bernard Coles, the deputy city engineer and surveyor. Coles explains that the construction of the ring road began in 1957 and is expected to be completed in 1971. He then shows Smith a model of the completed road and Smith describes the planned Aston Expressway junction at Gravelly Hill which will link Birmingham with the M6, M5 and M1. He explains that the complicated design has been nick-named 'spaghetti junction' and will open in the early 1970s.
