Description

Shots of the first HST Inter-City 125 train to arrive at Birmingham New Street. Also a shot of an old Class 45 diesel which is now twenty years old. British Rail has problems with an ageing fleet of locomotive, rolling stock, track that cannot cope with the high speeds required as well as a lack of new electrified routes. (Section of black where a clip of the French TGV was inserted). Interview with Doctor John Prideux who explained that the French see their railway as as essential piece of their national infrastructure. Shots of passengers at New Street station. Vox pops with passengers generally happy with the service. Bob also talked to a young train spotter who preferred the character of the old diesel locomotives to the new HST.
