Description

We open with views of Derbyshire countryside and the rivers of the county as Terry Thomas talks about the region in context with the development of fly fishing by Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton (illustrations of the two men are used). Thomas talks to Arnold Moseley about the history of angling in Derbyshire. We also see establishing shots of Izaak Walton's cottage at Shallowford in Staffordshire and views of stained glass windows in Winchester Cathedral which are dedicated to Walton and the sport he developed. We then return to Derbyshire for views of Dovedale including shots of a busy carpark and hikers. Arnold Moseley then shows Terry the section of the River Manifold that disappears underground near Ilam followed by views of the river further downstream (they also spot a water vole).

Moseley and Thomas are then seen fishing for trout on the River Wye and then similar shots of the pair in action on the River Lathkill. We then see Thomas fishing for grayling on the River Derwent at Cromford with Tom Saville. The programme ends with a montage of general fishing scenes cut to a song about the pastime.
