Description

The film begins with exterior views of factories in Stafford (c1954). We see the entrances to Lotus Ltd , W. H. Dorman and Co. Ltd and English Electric. We then see two children leaving a church (Castle Church?) and walking away from the camera along Thorneyfields Lane. We then see the exterior of a 1930s house and views into the hall. Inside the typical sitting room (with oak furniture, fire place and radiogram) a girl tidies and then plays a piano. A large window leads to the garden and in the distance Stafford Castle can be seen. The family sit in the garden eating and two girls play on the grass. Slightly later (c1958) town centre scenes follow with traffic passing the Grapes pub and views around the Market Square. Another scene shows terraced houses on Rowley Street in Stafford. The exterior of Goodwin’s Electrical shop is visible with radios and television sets in the window. The next shot shows the interior of the shop filled with electrical goods. A television is being adjusted in the workshop. The last sequence of the film shows a family gathering at the house. We see members of the family and guests in the kitchen, sitting room and garden and two men look under the bonnet of a Ford Consul.
