Description

The film mixes archive footage of industry in the Black Country (chain and anchor making and coal mining) with modern shots in a Black Country blast furnace; material shot at the Black Country Museum; and a group of mostly elderly people in a pub reminiscing about life in the Black Country. The anecdotes and stories continue over much of the archive footage providing first hand accounts of the region.

There are also shots of a group of people (in period costumes) singing inside a derelict foundry; and a stylised recreation of a bare knuckle boxing bout featuring the actor Pat Roach as William Perry (the Tipton Slasher).

The glass industry is also featured with archive shots of wine glasses being blown mixed with modern shots of glass wear being produced using moulds. We also see a few archive street scenes and typical shots of smoking factory chimneys again mixed with modern footage.

There is also extensive use made of archive stills.
