Description

We first see the finish line of the JB Harvey Memorial Cycle Race outside Countesthorpe village hall where the race HQ was housed (c1968). The unnamed winner is subsequently presented with a trophy inside the hall. (The remainder of the reel is c1960/61) We see a cricket match at Countesthorpe Cricket Club's home ground (the only colour section), which is followed by footage of members of Saint Andrews' Youth Fellowship walking to Ray Kind's field at Willoughby where they make a fire and cook sausages and eggs. The next item shows preparations for the village's Whit Monday Carnival. After this come shots of slogans painted in whitewash on roads in Countesthorpe. These include 'Don't Close it Down' written in front of the railway station. There is subsequently a brief shot of Gerald Gilliam talking to Rodney Mead and finally views of Station Road in Countesthorpe before the trees that originally lined it were felled.

Notes

This compilation was originally screened in and around Countesthorpe with COUNTESTHORPE IN CAMERA 1970-1972. Both titles have an accompanying soundtrack on 1/4 inch magnetic tape, which provides contextual information. The cricket match is the only colour material. Countesthorpe railway station was closed at the beginning of 1962.
