Film Description

Personalities at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre talk about their memories of the Rep's founder Sir Barry Jackson and the plans for a new venue on Broad Street.

The film insert is in a number of short sections without a commentary or reporter.

We see actress Celestine Randall getting ready for a performance. Tom English speaks to camera about the character of the theatre's founder Sir Barry Jackson. Nancy Burman who ran the theatre after Jackson's death describes him as ahead of his time and Sir Ralph Richardson mentions Jackson's inheritance that he spent on the theatre.

The next short section cuts between two pieces to camera from Dame Peggy Ashcroft and Sir Ralph Richardson about their early work together in the theatre. We then see theatre historian J.C. Trewin in the foyer of the Repertory Theatre in Station Street talking about the plans to build a new theatre on Broad Street in Birmingham. The final section contains more pieces from Peggy Ashcroft and Ralph Richardson talking to camera.
