Description

The film begins with an interview with the film-maker Bill Townley. He explains why he made ‘Baskeyfield VC’ and talks about the production of the film. He says the he made the film to get Baskeyfield recognition. This is followed by Mr Townley’s film which is a re-enactment of the actions of the 2nd South Staffordshire Regiment against a Nazi attack in Oosterbeek. We see how Lance-Sergeant Baskeyfield died operating an anti-tank gun after the rest of his regiment had been killed.

Notes

John Baskeyfield was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously in November 1944. A statue of him stands in Festival Heights in Stoke-on-Trent.
