Higher education

As important cultural artefacts and historical documents moving images have become an essential tool for the academic, both in terms of research and as tools for teaching and learning.

For this reason MACE is very keen for its collections to be used by undergraduates, postgraduates and academics from all disciplines and subject areas.

To some degree this goal is aided by the fact that we are housed by the University of Leicester where we are developing a MA module with the East Midlands Oral History Archive (EMOHA), which will consider moving image and oral history as historical documents.  We are also in the process of producing undergraduate modules for the School of Historical Studies and also Film Studies.

In addition to this MACE is a founding partner of the British Film and Television Research Network (BFAT).  Along with the University of Leicester and De Montfort University we have been involved in the development of this research hub which will focus on the study of British film and television.

But our partners in the higher education sector are not solely limited to Leicester based universities.  For instance, Fran Eames is an AHRC collaborative doctoral student working out of the University of Nottingham who is writing her thesis on representations of local identity in ATV's regional television news collection, which is held at MACE.  One of her articles, Negotiating Transgression in Local Media, can be found by clicking here.

We have also worked in a variety of ways with the universities of Warwick, Coventry, Central England, Wolverhampton, Nottingham Trent, Derby, Lincoln and Worcester.

We want to continue developing such links across the Midlands and across all subject areas.  If you are interested in using or finding out more about the resources held at MACE please contact Richard Shenton.
