Summary Collection of home movies shot in Droitwich during the 1960s and 70s.
Description We see shots of Droitwich Spa Carnival from 18th June 1960. There are shots of men putting up bunting and shots in a playing field of a group moving a go kart. Next we see shots of people preparing floats before a carnival and children and adults in fancy dress. Next we see shots of people milling about followed by shots of the carnival procession through Droitwich starting with a drumming marching band followed by various themed floats including 'Highlights of 1960', Alice in Wonderland, Dixieland Minstrels, British Legion Women's section, Bride of the Year, the Carnival Queen and Jack Butters Fruit Fairies. We see shots of crowds watching the procession. Next we see shots of a man carving a roasted pig and of children on fairground rides at the carnival. Next we see shots of a large bridge and a clearing as part of the construction of the M5 motorway in Handbury Road, Droitwich and Wychbold. We also see shots taken from a car driving along a section of the new road. Next we see shots of a flood in the high street, Droitwich. We see shots of the Fire Brigade, a boat and groups of onlookers. There are shots of a woman in an upstairs window. Next we see shots of water being pumped away nearby and a man using a large dryer to dry out a shop in the high street. This is followed by shots at Droitwich train station of steam and diesel trains passing through the station. Next we see shots of a wedding outside Droitwich Registry Office, Ombersley Street, in 1973. There are shots of the bride and groom and wedding guests.
