We see shots of a darts competition in Forge & Ferry pub in Fownhope. This is followed by shots of the pub car park and a man giving drivers a sheet of paper before they drive away to take part in a treasure hunt.
Next we see shots of a man and a woman in a house ironing and tying red, white and blue ribbons together. Next we see shots of two men in Capler Wood near Fownhope. We see them in the early morning selecting an oak tree branch and cutting smaller branches to size. Next we see the men crossing a field and walking down a road carrying the tree branch.
Next we see shots of people decorating the branches with the previously tied ribbons and the tree being driven away on the back of a tractor trailer.
This is followed by shots of two men putting together a banner which reads 'The Fownhope Heart of Oak Friendly Society Established 1876'. Next we see shots of people making a flower arrangement at one end of a pole.
Next we see shots of a group of people outside The New Inn, Fownhope holding the banner and adults and children holding poles with flower arrangements at one end. There is a competition for the best arrangement and first, second and third places are awarded to children's flower arrangements.
Next we see shots of a parade made up of the adults and children holding their flowers, the decorated tree and the Lydbrook Brass band walking down the main road in Fownhope. There are shots of the parade entering and leaving St Mary's Church, Fownhope. We see shots of the parade in two residents' gardens in the village, the band playing and people drinking cider. Next we see shots of people entering The Greenman Inn for a seated lunch and speeches from the chairman of the society, the former chairman, the vicar and secretary. There is a toast to the Queen and the group sing 'God Save the Queen' and the 'Heart of Oak' song.
Next we see shots of children taking part in a formation marching performance outside The New Inn. Next we see shots of people taking part in various competitions including sack races and skittles. This is followed by a man announcing the competition winners. |
